Grade 1 and 2 students at Bennett Elementary School participated in a special ceremony on June 12 in recognition of Flag Day, which is observed annually on June 14. The ceremony was led by local members of the American Legion.

During the presentation, students learned about the history of the American flag, the symbolism behind its design, and the traditional method of folding it. The ceremony concluded with a community sing-along of “You’re a Grand Old Flag.” Afterwards, the honored guests—many of whom are Onteora alumni—were invited to explore a new feature on the Bennett Elementary website: an impressive archive of the school’s history.

We are grateful to the American Legion and Auxiliary members for helping our students commemorate the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States and for sharing this meaningful tradition with our school community!
