The Bennett Elementary Jazz Ensemble is still golden! On June 9, the group received Gold once again under the direction of Onteora Music teacher Harvey Boyer and retired Music teacher Mary Leonard. The audition took place at Kingston High School, where the ensemble performed three prepared pieces: “C Jam Blues” by Duke Ellington and arranged by Rick Stitzel (featuring solos by trumpeter Saige Gierloff, alto saxophonists Hanna Metawee and Cooper Nagele ; “Blue “N” Moody” by Michael Sweeney featuring solos by trumpeter Saige Gierloff, and pianist Rowan Driscoll); and the heavy metal favorite “Iron Man ” recorded by Black Sabbath, arranged by Michael Sweeney (featuring solos by tenor saxophonist Sophia Spada, and baritone saxophonist Calvin Peck). Receiving Gold following this long stretch of not competing due to the pandemic is an amazing accomplishment explains Mr. Boyer. The judges were most impressed by the intonation of the group and jazz swing feel that these young musicians exhibited!

Congratulations!
