You should have received the letter below from your third grade teacher.  It contains important information about the music program at Bennett.  It also contains the link to use to sign up for an instrument.  

As we discussed in our meets, it's important to choose three instrument choices.  Just like a team has to cover all of the positions, an orchestra and a band need to have all of their instruments as well.  A soccer team wouldn't be very good if everyone was the goalie, and a band wouldn't work if everyone played the flute!  

Please read the letter carefully with your parents and talk about your choices.

Dear Parents,

The study of a musical instrument begins in the 4​ grade at Bennett School. The third grade students have had the opportunity to meet the instrumental music teachers online for a presentation on the different instruments and were able to hear each instrument played. This presentation also gave them information about the band and orchestra programs and answered any questions they had regarding the study of an instrument at Bennett. Our video showing the different instruments will be available on the Bennett School web page for you to watch with your child.

The Bennett Music Department encourages everyone to sign up for an instrument! Being able to study an instrument in school is a great opportunity and our music programs have a lot to offer our students. Bennett offers instruments from the orchestra and the band. These instruments are pictured below. The instruments listed on the google form are the ONLY instruments that are available for study in the beginning instrumental program. To play an instrument you must be willing to:

• ●  Practice consistently at home for the amount of time recommended by your teacher.

• ●  Attend lessons once each week during school day.

• ●  Attend band/orchestra rehearsals to prepare for concert performances.

• ●  Have a parent fill in and sign your practice sheet each week.

  Please note, your child will be given ​one​ of the three instruments they have chosen. ​Enrollment on some instruments is limited in order to have balanced ensembles. ​Our goal is to match each child to an instrument on which they will be successful, and we have found that a child who is encouraged and supported at home is successful on any instrument.Please talk to your child about their preferences and respond online with the google form. ​Responses are due by June 26th.

  Over the summer you will receive a letter notifying you of the instrument that your child will play and giving information on how to obtain an instrument to use. Enrollment on some instruments is limited so it is important that you indicate three different choices for your child on the google form.

Queridos padres,

El estudio de un instrumento musical comienza en cuarto grado en la escuela Bennett. Los estudiantes de tercer grado tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer a los maestros de música instrumental en línea para una presentación sobre los diferentes instrumentos y pudieron escuchar cada instrumento tocado. Esta presentación también les proporcionó información sobre los programas de banda y orquesta y respondió cualquier pregunta que tuvieran sobre el estudio de un instrumento en Bennett. Nuestro video que muestra los diferentes instrumentos estará disponible en la página web de la Escuela Bennett para que lo vea con su hijo.

¡El Departamento de Música de Bennett anima a todos a inscribirse en un instrumento! Poder estudiar un instrumento en la escuela es una gran oportunidad y nuestros programas de música tienen mucho que ofrecer a nuestros estudiantes. Bennett ofrece instrumentos de la orquesta y la banda. Estos instrumentos se muestran a continuación. Para tocar un instrumento debes estar dispuesto a:
